The use of combined 3.5 LCP unicortical plate and nail fixation in proximal tibia fractures and prevention of valgus and anterior angulation

Introduction: Intramedullary nailing (IMN) of high tibia fracture has some mechanical and biological advantages over the other form of fixation. However, valgus, apex anterior malalignment and anterior displacement of proximal fragment commonly occur after isolated IMN fixation of proximal high tibia fracture. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of using 3.5-mm locking c...

Congenital deficiency of the tibia.

The late results of treatment of 24 legs in 21 children with congenital deficiency of the tibia are presented. A new classification is proposed which correlates well with recommendations for treatment and with the final functional result. Three types of deficiency were recognised: Type I, total absence of the tibia; Type II, distal absence; Type III, distal deficiency with tibiofibular diastasi...

Congenital Pseudarthrosis of the Tibia

Forty cases of congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia were reviewed. The results were assessed so as to emphasise function rather than simply the presence or absence ofunion. At the time ofreview, 14 patients had undergone amputation; eight others had non-union or tenuous union. No surgical procedure except the Farmer operation (a composite skin and bone pedicle graft from the other leg) showed...

Congenital snapping knee. Habitual anterior subluxation of the tibia in extension.

We describe a rare form of congenital snapping knee. In six knees in four children, the tibia subluxed anteriorly on the femur when the knee was extended and reduced spontaneously on flexion. The abnormal movements were seen and felt as sudden snaps or clunks at about 30 degrees of flexion. All six knees showed similar dysplastic features, although the patients had different clinical syndromes....
